The next project I've engaged on is called Metallic Earth. So far two tracks have been completed. Every sound on the album is that of a metal object. Found sounds in other words. Many are what I've recorded around the house or out and about but there are also a few public domain sounds thrown in since they are so good.

I've always been fascinated by the manipulation of sounds to create something new and unheard. This fascination goes back to childhood when I first came across the musique concrète works of Schaeffer, Stockhausen, Boulez and Xenakis amongst others. In the 1980s, thanks to advances in synthesizer technology, bands like the Art of Noise came about. At the same time the Art of Noise released Who's Afraid of the Art of Noise Jean-Michel Jarre released Zoolook which used heavily processed voices as instruments. It really opened a new world.

So work will continue on Metallic Earth but it will be a few months before it's complete. I'm having a lot of fun with pots and pans, forks and spoons, radiators and fences. Who'd have thought!
